    White sand

    Far away from home
    No green in sight
    No tree;
    No bees - no colours bright
    White sand
    Burning sun, no shade
    Free
    Yet, not alone
    Men by my side
    Camels ahead of me
    Shadows all around
    White turns orange, red
    Sand the shape of mountains takes
    I remember you the twin I left behind
    Forever keep you in my mind.
    But, now I dance
    A desert queen
    Stars above my head
    Men sitting at my feet
    Eyes fixed on every turn
    Turn
    On naked feet
    Hem of my skirt up in the air
    Firm legs revealed
    A veil covers nothing,
    But my face
    Tambourine in hand
    Ankles full of bells
    Hands raised up high
    Ready to catch every star
    Men with hungry eyes
    Sitting by my feet
    They see all of me
    All
    But, my face
    Hidden from their sight
    The dance is not for them
    Nor is the face;
    Far more noble the man in my dreams
    Beautiful every move he makes
    In the fire I see him clear
    He pulls me in
    Flames catch my veil
    Reveal my face
    The eyes of men see

    White sand at my feet
    White sand…all of me

    Gabrielle, this is nothing less than a revelation to anyone that "assumes" anything in "being" with someone. You may see it all and see nothing. Stunning. I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to link this to the Freestyle page. It's a remarkable poem that deserves more comment.
