    Hull of salvation

Post by Gerrit Hermens on Wed 21 Dec 2011, 1:33 am

    Relieved hearts melodiously roar
as muscular arms push and pull on wooden oars.
    On deck they scurry about
below - with the sea, a bout.

The voyage, procrastinated for far too long,
while the tempest whistles its song,
    finally strives to reach
    the welcoming far away beach
where wars have not let waste
or plague or famine had a taste.

The captain masterly negotiates the towering waves
over and deep down to the watery caves
and over reefs and toppled graves
trusting humbly in He who saves.

At last the horizon shows a rise
much to delight, many grateful sighs.
Flat once more becomes the path revealed
On and on to the fertile fields...
