The setting sun’s golden arms
reach out to stroke
the breezed grass
beneath a darkening sky
gathering soft white blankets
for the crisp of night.
Guardians loom,
their shadows growing taller and taller
until they cover every inch
of little grass
and tiny sand.
The warmth: fading...
But from memory?...
That would be fatal!
No, just from
stem, leaf and twig.
Soon to return
and shine life once again
upon the timid and the bold
the tiny and the ominous.
